In Loving Memory of Joree Spiers King
August 31, 1935 - February 18, 2026
"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:23
With humble hearts and unwavering faith in God's promise of eternal life, we celebrate the beautiful homegoing of our beloved mother, Joree King, who peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on February 18, 2026, at the blessed age of 90.
Born on August 31, 1935, in Hancock County, MS, to Charles Spiers, Sr., and Olian Ladner Spiers. She was raised in faith and carried the love of Christ in her heart throughout her life. From an early age, she developed a deep and abiding relationship with the Lord that would guide her steps for nine remarkable decades.
Joree was a praying woman. A woman of wisdom. A woman whose strength came from Scripture and whose peace came from trusting God. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She believed that faith was not just spoken - it was lived.
Her home was a sanctuary filled with prayer, encouragement, and unconditional love. She taught her children and grandchildren to "trust in the Lord with all thine heart," and she lived that truth daily. In times of hardship, with her very strong-willed nature, she stood firm. In times of joy, she gave thanks. Through every season, she reminded us that God is faithful.
Her greatest ministry was her family. She leaves to cherish her legacy of love and faith:
• Her devoted children: her son, Marion (Trudy) Jones; her daughters, Darlene Jones and Sheree Jones; and her step-sons, Chris King, Kelly King, and Patrick King.
• Two Grandchildren: Heidi Davis (Ritchie Ellis) and Oundria Ahlers (John Ludlow).
• Five Great-grandchildren: Heather Davis (Amanda Gabbard), Olivia Ahlers, Hayden Pugel, Hyleigh Pugel, and Dawson Ahlers.
• Siblings: her sisters, Eva Lee Smith, Betty (Eddie) Martin, and Nancy Ladner; and her sister-in-law, Barbary Lee Spiers.
• And a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Spiers, Sr., and Olian Ladner Spiers; her first husband, Marvin Jones, and her husband later in life, Lloyd King; her infant daughter, Mary Ann Jones; her brothers, Charles Spiers, Jr. and Herschel Spiers; her sister, Linda Ladner; her infant brother and sister; her sister-in-law, Geraldine Spiers, her brother-in-laws, Paul Smith, Howard Ladner, and Con Houston Ladner; and her nephews, Casey Ladner and Conway Ladner.
For 90 blessed years, she walked by faith and not by sight. Though we grieve her physical absence, we rejoice in knowing she has heard the words, "Well done." We find comfort in God's promise that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Her light will continue to shine through the lives she nurtured, the prayers she prayed, and the faith she instilled in us all.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
There will be a visitation from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, prior to the service.
Father Emmanuel Subaar and Father Satish Adhar will be officiating the service.
Burial will follow the service at Necaise Crossing Cemetery.
We thank God for her life, her love, and her legacy. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.
