Jose Leal Arvizo, born on October 15, 1948, in Winkleman, Arizona, passed away peacefully in Tucson, Arizona, on October 11, 2025. A graduate of Tucson High School, Jose embodied a spirit of hard work and dedication from an early age. He began his career as a miner at Duval Mine before transitioning to the transportation department for the City of Tucson.

Jose proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War, reflecting his commitment to his country. Those who knew him often remarked on his calm and mellow demeanor, coupled with a kindhearted and selfless nature. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Jose was passionate about life’s simple pleasures. He was known for his delicious salsa and enjoyed grilling, often bringing the family together through meals infused with love. His musical talents shone through as he played the guitar and sang along, sharing joy through his music with friends and family, including playing at church. He took pleasure in hunting and camping, and he cherished day trips and weekend getaways, particularly celebrating the 4th of July at Patagonia Lake.

Jose leaves behind his beloved wife, Josie M. Arvizo, his step-sons, Ricardo Barrios and Mark Barrios, and his children, Yvonne, Monica, Lupita, and Jose Arvizo. He is also survived by his siblings, Neto Arvizo, Fina Gallego, and Rosa De Marzo, along with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his step-son, Greg Barrios, his siblings, Jake Arvizo, and his parents, Jose and Maria Arvizo.

Jose's proudest accomplishments include providing for his family and sharing his music with others. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and a genuine love for family and friends will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.

A Mass in celebration of Jose’s life will be held on October 31, 2025, at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, located at 1220 S 6th Ave, Tucson, AZ, beginning at 10:00 AM.
