Jose Luis Cantu-Diaz, 82, went home to God peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on March 11, 2024, after a well fought battle with cancer. Even though we knew he would one day succumb to his illness, he fought so well that we couldn't see how close his death was. As was his nature, he surprised us to the very end, and we all deeply feel his loss.

Jose was born on October 11, 1941 to Guadalupe in Mexico City, Mexico. He was one of 7 siblings. He had a deep love of nature that he passed on to his children. One of his favorite stories to share was leaving school to wander the mountains near his home. He described lying on the ground at the top of the mountain and watching as the stars moved across the sky. He said it was as though he could feel the earth's movement beneath him.

Jose was also an avid Elvis Presley fan, and he adored soccer. He never missed watching a game when his team, Club América, played. But above all his interests and hobbies, his faith in and love of God played a pivotal role in his life. Regardless of his religious affiliation, he was a devout follower of Jesus Christ, and he spent his life sharing his faith with any and all who would listen. His testimony shined brightly for all to see.

In 1974, Jose courageously moved to the United States. Shortly after arriving, he became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not too long after, he met and married the love of his life, Angie. They were married for almost 48 years and have four children together. Through thick and thin, he held to a promise he made to his mother: He would never abandon his family.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Jose's life will be held on March 23, 2024, at 400 S. Water Street, Henderson, NV 89015. Viewing will be at 10:00 A.M., Services at 11:00 A.M.

Memories and photos would be greatly appreciated.

His Journey's Just Began

Don't think of him as gone away

his journey's just begun,

life holds so many facets

this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting

from the sorrows and the tears

in a place of warmth and comfort

where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing

that we could know today

how nothing but our sadness

can really pass away.

And think of him as living

in the hearts of those he touched...

for nothing loved is ever lost

and he was loved so much.

I've worked with papa Jose at Desert Springs Hospital for 10 years. He was a hard working employee & an amazing friend. He sang & dance while singing one of Elvis Presley's song "Im all Shook Up". He was an amazing singer. He always put a smile on my face at work. With his word of wisdom, I've learned alot from him. He's been my mentor & a father at work. I visited papa & his wife at their house 2015, he gave me a cactus plant & taught me how to take care of them, until now I still have it . I will be forever grateful to papa Jose for the love & friendship that he gave.

Rest in heaven papa Jose . I will miss you.
