José "Big Joe" Luis Gonzalez Jr
Age 50, of New Lenox, passed away suddenly on October 1, 2023. Joe was born in Blue Island, IL to Rosa I. (nee Pena) and the late Jose L. Gonzalez Sr. Beloved husband of 30 years to Elizabeth (nee Martinez) Gonzalez; loving father of Lisa (Mark) Phillips, Marina (Armando Zambrano) Gonzalez, Lil' Joe Gonzalez, Aiden Gonzalez, and Mariah Gonzalez; cherished Apa of Giovanni and Emilio Zambrano, and Chase Phillips; dear brother of Mark (Stephanie) Gonzalez and Richard (Stefani) Scherl. Beloved nephew of Uncle Louis Peña and cousin to Jessica Peña. Querido yerno of Bartolo and Maria Martínez and respected brother in law to Rigo (Maria) Martinez, Orlando (Melinda) Martinez and Violeta (Miguel) Salgado. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was a hard working Locomotive Engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for over 27 years and a proud U.S. Army Veteran. Big Joe enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 3pm – 8pm. Funeral Services Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00am in the funeral home chapel. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
