Kurtz Memorial Chapel - New LenoxMarilyn F. Alwin (née Vik) of New Lenox, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the age of 95, surrounded by her family. Marilyn was born in Lake Bronson, MN, to the late Herbert and Anna (née Hammarback) Vik.
Beloved wife of the late Elon V. Alwin; loving mother of Craig Alwin and Patty Kosek; cherished grandmother of Melissa (Jeff) Small, Amy (Dave) Bertolini, Katie (Mike) Dennis, Jason (Sarah) Kosek, Lynne Kosek, Megan (Daniel) Roemer, and Brian (Jessie) Kosek; proud great-grandmother of Zoey and Harper Small, Mikey and Gavin Dennis, Sirena and Xander Kosek, Seth and Dakota Kosek, Avery, Cora, and Sophie Roemer, and Benjamin Kosek; dear sister of the late Harriet (late Billy) Joinette, Eugene (Helen) Vik, and Joyce (late Russell) Frys. She is also survived by her longtime, devoted caregivers, Rose and Priscilla, and was a loved aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Marilyn retired from Silver Cross Hospital OB Department after 26 years in 1986, where she served as the charge nurse of the nursery. Caring for new mothers and newborns was truly her passion. She was a longtime member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Joliet, IL. Marilyn was deeply devoted to her family and was highly involved in the lives of her grandchildren. She had a deep love for nature and animals and was a longtime member of the Pilcher Park Garden Club. She enjoyed visiting the Birdhaven Greenhouse and the New Lenox Commons.
Marilyn also loved camping, gardening, crafting, sewing, making teddy bears, and even creating stained glass pieces. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain a lasting legacy in the hearts of those she touched.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451, on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10:30 AM until the Memorial Service at 12:30 PM. Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL, at a later date.
