Jose R. MARES

Jose R. Mares, 71, of Gwinn, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon, July 30, 2015 at UP Health System-Marquette surrounded by his loving family. Jose was born on December 29, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Jose retired from the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base as a fire fighter. He was a member of Living Faith Fellowship in Gwinn and in his free time, enjoyed gardening and fishing. His happiest moments were those spent with his family. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Laura Mares whom he married on March 15, 1978 in Alamogordo, New Mexico; four sons, Ruben Guevara of Miami, FL, Eddie (Liezl) Guevara of Menasha, WI, Sergio (Dana) Guevara of Sanford, NC, and Cesar (Beth) Guevara of Gwinn; 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; also a brother, Pedro Mares as well as numerous nieces nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Vicky Mares as well as several siblings in San Antonio, TX. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Living Faith Fellowship in Gwinn with Pastor Jon Henry officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service in the church. A dessert social will take place immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall. .
