José "Manuel" Merced – Lawrence, MA

Peacefully José "Manuel" Merced passed away on Saturday May 31, 2025. José was born on January 20, 1951, in Cidra, Puerto Rico. He then relocated to Lawrence, MA, as a teenager. He played softball, where he then met the love of his life, Lydia. They were together and married for 55yrs.

He loved the Red Sox, playing cards, billiards, dominoes, and most importantly, fishing. His sense of humor was contagious and brought so much laughter and joy to those that were in his company, including being a very giving individual.

As a provider for his family, he demonstrated such endless love, which then poured over to his grandkids and great grandchildren, as his greatest achievement till the day of his passing. Everyone who knew and loved him will miss him deeply.

José leaves behind his loving wife, Lydia Merced, daughters, Evelyn and husband Edwin, Noemi and husband Desi, Jocelyn and husband Kabir - 8 Grandchildren, Adriel, Desiree, Desi Jr., Adalise, Marc, Lizmarie, Aaron, Daniel and 5 great grandchildren.

José is predeceased by his parents, Justo Santana, Genoveva Amaro and son José M. Merced, Jr.

Calling hours are Friday, June 6, 2025 from 4-8 PM at the Spanish Assemblies of God Church, 14 Vine Street, Lawrence, MA 01841. A funeral service will take place at the church during the calling hours. Mr. Merced's funeral will begin on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10 AM at Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. Burial will follow in St. Mary's / Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
