It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved Jose Antonio Montero, 56, of Palm Coast, FL passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2025 in Palm Coast, Florida. He was born on November 5, 1968, in New York, NY to Carmelo and Zoraida (nee Bergollo) Montero. Jose was raised in the Bronx, where he developed a deep love for sports, music, family, and community that stayed with him throughout his life. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, where he made lifelong friends and found his passion for both basketball and baseball. He could often be found on the court or field, always full of energy and joy. Later in life, he discovered a love for fishing - the peaceful moments on the water brought him great comfort and reflection. A proud and talented tradesman, Jose was a Master Locksmith and Journeyman Carpenter. His skills and dedication led him to become a successful business owner, known not just for his craftsmanship, but for his integrity and willingness to help others. He never turned away a neighbor in need, and many will remember him for his generosity and steady hands. He was a devoted family man: A proud father to his cherished daughter, Brionni, and a loving partner to her mother, Yesi. His love extended deeply to his mother, Zoraida Montero, and to his siblings, Haydee, Linda, Alexis, and his stepbrother George Rivera. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Antonia Molina and father Carmelo Montero, both of whom he carried in his heart always. He is also survived by a large extended family who loved him dearly, including his nieces Erika, Tanya, and JR (Maritza) and grandnieces Evee Lee, Mia-Luna, and nephews Jaxx Lee and Damien. His extended family includes Aunt Titi Liz, Uncle Joseph, and cousins Kenny, Leigh, and Yvette, among many others who will miss him profoundly. Jose also leaves behind treasured friendships with Joe Fernandez, Joe Salce, Denise, Chelsea, Justin, Angelica, Raymond, and so many more whose lives he touched with kindness, humor, and heart. He had a special bond with his loyal dog, Shuggle, who brought him endless joy and companionship. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 East Moody Boulevard, Building #G-7, Bunnell, FL at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations or contributions be sent to Zoraida Montero and Brionni in his honor. His laughter, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will never be forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, hard work, and love - the kind that lives on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace!
