Jose M. Pereira

Jose M. Pereira, of Langhorne, Pennsylvania passed away at his residence on November 28, 2025, at the age of 94. He was the loving husband of Ermelinda (Silva) Pereira; together they shared 67 years of marriage.

Jose was born in Batalha, Portugal to the late Alfredo and Julia (Almeida) Pereira. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Antonio Pereira and Joaquim Pereira.

Jose's courage, drive, and tenacity showed in everything he put his mind to. In 1970, he made the bold choice to leave Portugal and the life he knew to move to South Philadelphia to build a better future for his family. Relying on his determination and ingenuity, Jose started Jose M. Pereira Concrete in South Philadelphia in 1972. In 1980, he welcomed his sons into his business and incorporated the business as J.M. Pereira & Sons, Inc. Together, they expanded the company into Bucks County, PA in 1987. Today, more than 53 years later, J.M. Pereira & Sons continues to operate with the same values Jose instilled back in 1972.

Outside of his work in concrete, Jose was often found tending to his gardens, trees, and grape vines. He was known amongst his friends and family for his strong homemade wine, grappa, and other liquors, as well as his grilled chicken and ribs.

Jose's love for his homeland never faded, even after his success in the United States. In 1989, he designed and built his dream home on the same land in Batalha, Portugal, where he began raising his family many years earlier. Later in life, he was fortunate to spend half of each year in Portugal, and half in the United States. His home in Portugal showcased his creativity, featuring a handmade carousel and intricate miniature villages for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to enjoy.

In addition to his wife, Ermelinda, Jose is survived by his sons: Carlos Pereira and his wife Valerie, Rui Pereira and his wife Joann, and Antonio Pereira; his grandchildren: Ashley Bellman and her husband Ryan, Michael Pereira and his wife Emily, Matthew Pereira and his wife Alexandra, Alex Pereira, and Gianna Pereira; his great-grandchildren: Olivia, Palmer, Madison, Jude, Jackson, Baker, Chloe, and Wesley; and his sister, Maria Luisa Meneses. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation in celebration of Jose's life on Friday December 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, Pennsylvania followed by his Memorial Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
