José Solari, affectionately known as Pepe, Papá Pepe, or simply Papá, passed away on Peruvian Independence Day, July 28, 2025, at the age of 95.He was born on March 17, 1930 in Lima, Peru to Juan Augusto Solari Pomar and Herminia Maria Solimano Devoto. Pepe was the sixth of eight siblings.
In 1946, Pepe met the love of his life, Clara "Curra" Ida Pomar. They married in 1952 and spent nearly 70 years building a life and family together. He proudly served in the Peruvian military, where he developed the discipline and sense of duty that would shape his role as a husband and father.
Pepe and Curra had seven children, and moved frequently throughout Peru with the military, living in various cities and making new memories every few years. He was a man of structure, strength, but also of deep warmth and humor. In 1984, Pepe and Curra relocated to the United States to join their daughter, Ida, and youngest son, Giacomo. One by one, the rest of their children followed, and the family reunited in the Bay Area. There, Pepe spent the next few decades surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
He was known for always keeping active, cleaning and exercising. If he wasn't working out in the outdoor gym he set up or playing basketball with his children, he and Curra were walking miles throughout Burlingame, daily. His military etiquette never left him as evident by his signature black hair, always perfectly combed and gelled with his mustache to match. He was often seen around his apartment complex babysitting his grandchildren and keeping the communal areas clean with his trusty broom.
Pepe is survived by his seven children – Juan José, José Luis, Augusto "Mateo", Dante Alfieri, Ida, Luigi, and Giacomo – his 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, and his sister, Carmen back in Peru. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Curra. He will be remembered for his humor, his discipline, his deep love for his family, and his pride in his heritage. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the laughter he brought into our homes, and the strength he instilled in all of us.
