Josef Holzli Obituary
Born in the village of Scheindorf, Romania, March 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Paul Sr. and Elizabeth Schimpf Holzli.
Josef lived with his mother and brother while his father worked in America. During WW2, as the Russian Army advanced through the front lines of battle, the families of the village fled their homes to the west. Mercifully, they ended up in the American Zone after the war ended.
He worked as a stable hand, groomer, and horseman for the American Division under General Mark Clark during this time. His family immigrated to United States in 1950 and he became a citizen in 1957. He married Elizabeth Koch in 1953 and had 3 children, Joseph, Carol and Linda. Josef was a self-employed General Contractor. He built the family home in Flemington in 1960 and in 1965 had another son, Daniel. He built over 100 homes and various additions, renovations in Hunterdon, Mercer, Somerset Counties.
Josef is predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Holzli, and one brother Paul.
He leaves behind his wife of nearly 70 years, Elizabeth; his four children,Joseph Holzli of Flemington, NJ, Carol Holzli of Flemington, NJ, Linda Snyder and her husband, Philip of Milford, NJ, Daniel and his wife, Denise, of Flemington NJ; two grandchildren, Kelly and Nicholas, one step-grandson, Jesse, and one great-grandson, Kevin Snyder.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 26, 2023, at 12:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow service in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held Monday, June 26, 2023, from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM in the funeral home.
