Josefina Nunez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rudy Garza Funeral Home - Harlingen on Sep. 24, 2025.
Josefina Luna Nunez, age 71, entered into eternal rest on September 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Josefina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Known for her kind heart, warm smile, and love of cooking, she touched the lives of many through both her family life and her longtime career. She was the head cook at Pepe's Restaurant in Harlingen from its opening, where she worked faithfully for over 30 years. Her dedication and love for her work made Pepe's her second home and the people she worked with an extension of her family. Josefina found joy in the simple moments-sharing breakfast every morning with her beloved husband, shopping, and spending quality time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. A woman of deep faith, she never missed a Sunday service and lived her life with grace, humility, and love for others. She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Raul R. Nunez, Sr.; her two children, Raul Nunez, Jr. and Joanna Nunez, both of Harlingen; and her cherished grandchildren, Sanya Rae Nunez, Zaylynn Rose Nunez, and Zekiah Royce Nunez. She is also survived by her siblings: Isaias Luna of Mexico, Emma Luna of Houston, Juanita Gonzalez of La Feria, and Abraham Luna of Mexico, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly. Josefina is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Elvira Luna, and her brother, Ramon Luna, Jr. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels in Harlingen, Texas. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the same location. Interment will take place at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen. Serving as pallbearers are Raul Nunez, Jr., Jose Manuel Bernabe, Peter Contreras, Isaias Gonzalez, Frank Gonzalez, and Juan Nava. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas. Josefina will be deeply missed, but her love, strength, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
