Joseph Apple IV, Wanbli Chante Washte Hokshila, was born on July 30, 1980 in
Pine Ridge, SD to Joseph Apple III and Marlene Takes War Bonnett-Apple. Joe made his journey to his forever home in heaven at the Monument Health Hospital on April 1, 2024 after a lengthy illness.
Joe is survived by his wife, Jennifer Ryhal-Apple; his daughter, Marlena of New
Brighton, Pennsylvania; his mother, Marlene Takes War Bonnett-Apple of Martin; his sisters, Jolene Takes War Bonnett, Gina (Aaron Farley) Apple, and Sophie (Billie Gundlach) Apple, all from Martin; his nieces, Kadyn, Aaryn, and Farley; nephews, Aadyn Farley and Robert Scheutzow of Martin, Luis Chavez, Jr. of Aberdeen, Chantel Chavez of Rapid City, Lyra and Aryl Lightfoot of Martin; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces too many to name.
Joe attended school in Martin and graduated from Northwest Indian Bible School and also attended Oglala Lakota College. He worked in the missionary field and traveled to Peru to do work there. Joe had a generous heart and enjoyed helping people when he could. He loved to sing and play the guitar, he enjoyed fishing and hunting wild game. He loved to visit, tell stories and was humorous with his jokes. He enjoyed enhancing his cooking skills and sharing the meals he made. He enjoyed target shooting with his cousins and always enjoyed a good game of horseshoes. He enjoyed sketching images and watching a good movie with family. After his graduation, he married Jennifer Ryhal and they made their home in Pennsylvania. To this union came their beautiful daughter Marlena, who was Joe's pride and joy. He had health problems and came back to South Dakota until his death.
Joe was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Apple; his father, Joseph Wayne Apple III; paternal grandparents, Joseph Apple, Sr. and Rebecca Cottier-Apple; his maternal grandparents, Leo Takes War Bonnett and Sophie One Horn-Takes War Bonnett; his uncles, Leon Takes War Bonnett, Sr., Ray Takes War Bonnett, William and Albert Apple and Ronald Cottier; and his aunts, Carlita Takes War Bonnett-Bush, Kathy Dubray, Charlene Bush-White Horse, and Mrynette Apple-Janis.
Pallbearers are Edwin 'Baby Boy' Around Him, Jr., Marty Mesteth, Jr., Ray "Rage" Takes War Bonnett, Joseph Bush, Sr., Liam Bush, Robert Reddy, Jr., Nathan Beauchamp, Gio Bush, Paul Mousseau, Kevin Olsen, Cameron Reddy, Matt Shangreaux, Oscar Takes War Bonnett, and Miles Young.
Honorary pallbearers will be all his friends and relatives.
Wake Services: One night wake service will began at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the New Legion Building in Martin, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM
Funeral Services: Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the New Legion Building in Martin, SD
