Joseph "Carl" Apsley, Jr., 96, passed away December 20, 2024.
Carl was born and raised in Elizabeth and was a resident of Martinsville since 1964. He graduated from The Cooper Union in New York City with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Carl was the owner and president of Winters Stamp Manufacturing Company, where he worked for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. Carl was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Bridgewater and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. In his spare time, he enjoyed vintage car restoration, wood working, clock making, and his annual trip to London. Carl will be sadly missed by all.
He is predeceased by his wife Grace "Marion" Apsley who passed away in 1994 and brother Donald Apsley.
Surviving are his children Jane Apsley-Williams, Susan E. Apsley, and J. Maxwell Apsley, two grandchildren Vanessa Podolak and Emily Williams, and three great grandchildren Carly, Dylan, and Evan.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Bridgewater. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Martinsville Rescue Squad, 1771 Washington Valley Road, P.O. Box 296, Martinsville, NJ 08836; or to the building fund of St Martin's Episcopal Church, 1350 Washington Valley Road, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. I knew Carl from the Vintage Chevrolet Club. I always enjoyed our conversations. He was a very intelligent man and had a wonderful personality. He will be missed. I am glad that I got to know him.
