Joseph J. Augustine, Jr., 94, of Smock, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at home with his loving family by his side. Born on February 26, 1931, in Footedale, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Helen C. Wojcik Augustine, Sr. He was known to his family and the kids in the patch as "Sonny". Surely his bright demeanor awarded him the nickname.

Joseph graduated from German Twp. High School in 1949 and afterward served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He earned both the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

A man of deep faith, Joseph was a member of St. Therese Church and a former usher.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post 26.

Joseph enjoyed gardening, cooking, telling jokes, playing his harmonica, listening to polka music and dancing the polka, bowling and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. His evenings consisted of watching Andy Griffith, Family Feud, Friends, Daniel O'Donnell and The Molly B Polka Party.

Joseph worked for Landscaping by Fisher for 40 years and was a custodian with WMBS Radio Station for nearly 50 years. He was a perfectionist and took great pride in his work.

After retirement, alongside his wife, Charlene, he helped with the daily operations of Sinclair Personal Care Home. His infectious smile brought much light and happiness to the residents over the years, as well as anyone else who would meet him.

He is survived by his loving children: Lisa Andursky and companion John Svokos, Sue Apicella and husband Ap, Laurie Walters and companion Colin Rockwell, and Joey Augustine and wife Melanie; nine grandchildren, Dominic Apicella, Adam Apicella, Christopher Baisden, Shane Walters, Austin Walters, Lexi Augustine, Jaiden Augustine, Samantha Bush and husband John, and Katie Payton and husband Brian; eight great grandchildren, Kennedy, Cambrie, Parker, Chase, Renley, Lucas, Mason, and Aurora; and three sisters, Irene Augustine, Dorothy Augustine, and Joan Niemits along with a niece, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two wives, Lois Ann Williams Augustine on February 15, 1983, with whom he was blessed with 20 years of marriage and Charlene Sinclair Augustine on December 16, 2020, with whom he was blessed with 30 years of marriage; and two step children, Kim Berthlotte and Arthur "Micky" McDade.

We wish to thank his caregivers, Missy, Holly, Jami, El and Taylor, for their loving and compassionate care over the last 5 years, and also Fr. Edwin and Fr. Julius for their visits with the sacraments over the years.

Visitation for Joseph will be held at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, on Friday, September 26th from 4 to 8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 10 AM at St. Therese Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, with prayers of transfer at the funeral home at 9:15 AM. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Therese Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or to the American Legion Post 26, 301 US 51, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
