Joseph Harvey Bamsey, a devoted, loving family man, passed away on December 11, 2025, at Optalis Health & Rehabilitation Center in Troy, Michigan. He was 87 years old. Joseph was a longtime resident of Troy and Royal Oak, Michigan, and lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and quiet strength.
Joseph was born on March 30, 1938, in Livonia, Michigan, to the late Frederick and Helen Bamsey. He graduated from Royal Oak Dondero High School in 1956 and continued his education at General Motors Institute (GMI), earning his engineering degree in 1960. Joseph dedicated 32 years of his professional life to General Motors in Pontiac, where he worked as an engineer until his retirement in 1988. His career reflected his strong work ethic, intelligence, and commitment to excellence. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working as the local handyman, doing painting, carpentry, and all sorts of jobs for others.
A man of deep faith, Joseph was a faithful and active member of Troy Christian Chapel. He found great joy and fellowship in the church's men's group and lived out his faith actively and intentionally. He was also known for his quick wit and dry humor that garnered as many groans as laughter. He was a man of abiding joy and great love.
Joseph is survived by his loving children, Michael (Kathleen) Bamsey, Karen Moore, and Kristin (David) Wuori; seven cherished grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Perna, as well as many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Lee (DeVos) Bamsey, whom he married on August 18, 1962, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Sandra passed away on November 23, 2017. Joseph was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alfred Bamsey; his sister, Muriel Dusseau; and his granddaughter, Samantha Skinner.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 5:45 PM, followed by the funeral service at 6:00 PM at Troy Christian Chapel, 400 E. Long Lake Road, Troy, Michigan 48085. Joseph's cremated remains will be laid to rest at White Chapel Cemetery. Joseph will be remembered for his steady presence, his unwavering faith, his dedication to family, and a life well lived in service to others.
