Joseph Bartos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vincent Funeral Home - West Point on Feb. 16, 2026.
Joseph John Bartos III passed away on February 13, 2026, surrounded by family. He lived a full and meaningful life, marked by hard work, curiosity, generosity, and enduring friendships.

Joe was born on June 11, 1941, the son of Joseph John Bartos Jr. and Mildred Dansey Bartos, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Carolyn Alford and Donna Bartos. He is survived by his brother, Timothy Bartos.

In 1970, Joe married Betty Frances Bartos, who preceded him in death. Together they raised a family that included Betty's son from a previous marriage, Frank Farmer, whom Joe raised as his own. Frank preceded him in death. Joe and Betty also had one son, Joseph John Bartos IV, who is married to Rebecca Suzanne Bartos. Joe was a proud grandfather to Lindsey Nicole Bartos, who brought him great joy.

Joe was a third-generation employee of Chesapeake Corporation, where he worked as a welder for more than 40 years. He took pride in his craft and was known for his skill, reliability, and work ethic. Outside of work, he was always willing to help others-often found welding up whatever someone needed, no questions asked.

When he wasn't working, Joe could often be found sitting on his porch, enjoying quiet moments and conversation. He had a lifelong love of technology, especially photography, video recording, CB radios, and anything related to televisions and electronics. He was endlessly curious and enjoyed learning how things worked.

In retirement, Joe regularly met old friends for breakfast, spent time riding along on friends' crabbing boats, and enjoyed cooking crabs. In recent years, he reunited with Ms. Pat Carlton, a rekindled high school romance that followed the passing of their spouses, bringing companionship and happiness late in life.

Joe Bartos lived life to the fullest until the end. He will be remembered for his kindness, his skills, his curiosity, and the many quiet ways he helped those around him.

Joe's family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM, Thursday, February 19th at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to West Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad Department, Inc., PO Box X, West Point, VA 23181.
