Joseph Michael Beard peacefully departed this world on August 1, 2025, at the age of 81. He was the cherished son of James William Beard Jr. and Marguerite Tucker Beard, born on April 25, 1944. Joseph, fondly known as Mike, dedicated his professional life to banking, initially as a banker before transitioning to a respected role as a bank examiner. His commitment to his work in banking led to a fulfilling retirement from the State of Texas, where he could focus on the passions that brought him joy.
An avid golfer, Mike found solace and happiness on the greens, where he shared countless moments with friends and family. He relished traveling, particularly cruising with his beloved wife, Bettye. Their adventures together enriched their lives and created treasured memories that will be cherished by all who knew them.
Mike's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Bearden; step-son, David Chilcutt and wife, Laura; step-daughter, Angie Williams and husband, Jason; his brother, James William Beard III; grandsons, Bradley Thomas Herring and Andrew Michael Herring and wife, Alcynna; as well as Bettye's grandchildren, Brooke Diaz, Dylan Chilcutt, Katelyn Williams and Braden Williams; and six great-grandchildren. He was also a treasured friend to Tara Andres, Joel Neely, Randy Haydon, Donna O'Donnell, David Adams, Carolyn Monroe, Bill McKenzie, Butch Cronenweth, Mike Cox and E.G. Butler, and many others.
Mike is reunited in spirit with his beloved wife, Bettye Joe Beard; his parents, James William Beard Jr and Marguerite; and his daughter, Kimberly Beard Herring, who preceded him in death.
A memorial service to honor Mike's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, Texas. Friends and family are invited to join together to celebrate a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many with his humor, wit, generosity and love.
