Joseph Bednar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Pocomoke City on Feb. 9, 2026.
Joseph Clayton Bednar, Jr., better known as Joe, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Dianne Memorie Ward and Joseph Clayton Bednar, Sr. He received his early education through the Baltimore City Public School System and Catholic schools.

Joe worked alongside his father on the assembly line at General Motors in downtown Baltimore before pursuing a long and dedicated career in public service. He retired as a Correctional Officer Major for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Joe had a curious mind and an early passion for technology, often spending his time building computers as a hobby.

Joe was happily married to Carol Griffin for several years, and together they welcomed three sons. Joe had a deep love for life and adventure. He cherished traveling and taking cruises with his mother and found joy in the outdoors, especially boating, fishing, crabbing, and caving. He was an avid watch and gun collector and had a strong appreciation for music, often playing the guitar. His favorite bands included The Eagles, Pink Floyd, and ZZ Top. He was also a big Star Trek fan. A devoted sports fan, Joe proudly supported the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles and loved attending live games at the stadium.

Joe was known for his kind heart and gentle spirit, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a fierce advocate for his health and overcame cancer several times. Throughout his treatments, he offered love and light to fellow patients, encouraging them on their own journeys. He was proud of his Czech Republic ancestry and dreamed of one day visiting.

He leaves behind his beloved sons: Dominic J. Bednar, Joseph Clayton Bednar III, and Travis Dwayne Bednar; his brother, Michael Bednar; his sister-in-law, Angela Bednar; and his nieces and nephews: Michael Joseph Bednar, Ashley Paige Bednar, Tabitha Rose Bednar, Edwin Nathaniel Bednar, and Daniel Lee Bednar; and cousins, Donna Benton LeBlanc, JoAnne, and Don.

The Funeral Service for Joseph Clayton Bednar, Jr. will begin Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 2:00PM EST.
