Joseph C. Bence, 70, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 22, 2024.
Born in Boston, son of Olga (Fernandes) Williams and the late Melvin Bence, he lived in Dartmouth most of his life before moving to New Bedford.
Joe was a long time member of the DAV, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #914. He worked as a Postal Clerk in the South Dartmouth post office for over 25 years. Joe had a bright smile and people loved seeing him at the post office. He was an avid coin and stamp collector and enjoyed camping and spending time with his children and dog Cuddles, a min-pin.
Joe served proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
Survivors include his mother, Olga; his children, Rob Bence and his wife Rebekah of Charlotte, NC, Sherri Lee Bence of Watertown, Carrie Elizabeth Bence of Raynham, and Kristin Bence of New Bedford; and his grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Jacob, Allison, LeeLee, Malachi, and Cameron.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday December 4th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His funeral service will be held on Thursday December 5th at 11 AM in the funeral home followed by a procession to the Massachusetts National Cemetery departing the funeral home at 11:30 AM.
