TUSCOLA - Joseph Anthony Bokor III, 71, of Tuscola passed away at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at home.
A time of visitation for Joe will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at Meyer Funeral Home, 307 W. Jourdan St., Newton, with a service to follow. Burial will be in Headyville Cemetery, rural Dieterich, with full military rites.
In loving memory of Joe, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund, P.O. Box 333, Newton, IL 62448. Arrangements are under the care of Meyer Funeral Home, Newton, meyerfh.com.
Joseph, better known as Joe, was born Nov. 8, 1951, in St. Louis County, Mo., the son of Joseph A. and Janet L. (Young) Bokor Jr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, serving from Dec. 13, 1974, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 12, 1978.
During his military career, he worked as an orthopedic clinic technician and as a medical service specialist, skills he used in his civilian career.
Joe was united in marriage to Kathy "Kate" Chesnut on Feb. 14, 1989, in Urbana.
Joe loved animals, and he shared this love working for the University of Illinois, retiring as a veterinary technician.
He enjoyed traveling to South Carolina to visit his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He spent many days cruising in one of his many Corvettes, proudly attending local shows and gatherings. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoying the ultimate fan experience with a ridealong at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Joe loved his bonus family in Jasper County, traveling down for holidays, family events, fishing, festivals and social occasions with his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife, Kate Bokor; a daughter, Nicole (Bryan) Graham; two stepsons, Shannon (Katie) Patterson and Jason (Lori) Patterson; seven grandchildren, Taylor, Maxwell, Stevi, Cody, Keagan, Zachary and Trenton; two great-grandchildren, Nora Heichel and Millie Heichel, and another on the way; a brother-in-law, Ron (Marsha) Chesnut; many cousins and extended family; and his two fur babies, Roxanne and Beau.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
