Joseph Bokowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 17, 2024.
After a long and fulfilling life, Joseph Theodore Bokowski, 89, peacefully passed away on December 03, 2024 at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC. The son of Victoria "Helen" (Speck) and Frank Bokowski, Joe was born in Irvington, NJ on April 15, 1935. During his teen years, his family moved to Cheshire, MA.

As a teenager, Joe worked as a farmhand until he enlisted in the Marines in 1955 at age 20, serving as a reservist until 1961. Often holding two jobs to support his family, his hard work advanced him into the positions of General Manager at the US Gypsum Company, Equipment Operator at Delmolino Construction, General Supervisor for Baystate Gas, and owner/operator of his own backhoe company - J&P Construction. He officially retired in 1996, moving from Adams, MA to Murrells Inlet, SC.

Joe was known for his infectious laugh and smile. His positive attitude and quick wit made a friend wherever he went. Family gatherings at his home in Adams, MA were filled with food, laughter, and music. Joe was an avid reader, loved daily walks on the beach, golf when his knees allowed, and enjoyed having a coffee and conversation with neighbors while sitting on his deck. Football season was his favorite time of year; with Christmas being his favorite holiday. He was a member of the Cheshire Lion's Club and the American Legion in Murrells Inlet.

Joe was preceded in in death by his wife Patricia Ann Hanlon Bokowski (2019), his sisters Sophie (Zosha) Gaylord, Julia (Fran) Delmolino and Genevieve Gaylord, and his brother Frank Bak.

Joe leaves behind three sons, Joe Bak and wife Patricia of Port Charlotte, FL; Lance Bokowski and wife Lindsey of Palmer, MA; Brent Bokowski and wife Patricia of Vancleave, MS; and daughter, Pamela Bokowski Martin and partner David of Goodyear, AZ. He is survived by his sister Paula Leonesio and husband John of Cheshire, MA; and brother Jon Bak of Adams, MA. Dziadziu was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family of Joseph would like to extend its gratitude to Doug Ammon (his daily cigar and coffee buddy), Cheryle Sparks, and to his many friends, golf buddies and church members for their prayers and good wishes.

A Celebration of Life will take place in South Carolina, June 2025 for both Joseph and Patricia.
