Joseph Thomas Burland

Joseph Thomas Burland, age 65, passed away on Sunday, December 8th, after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 3 years, Teresa (Mott) Burland, two daughters, Jaime Burland and Ashley Henderson, and four grandchildren Jaylynn, Jonathan, Makiah, and Adrian. Brothers Danny (Shelia) Burland, Stanley (Jill) Burland, and Ed (Loretta) Burland. Sisters Mary McQueen, Rita Burland Verile, Neva Burland Verile. Several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Jeannine (Peters) Burland, his wife Nancy Beth (Gerould) Burland, an infant son Sean Burland, grandson Malachi Burland, a brother Norman Burland and sisters Jeanne Burland and Kathy Burland.
Joe was born October 6, 1959, to Norman and Jeannine Burland in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He attended Portage Northern High School in the class of 1977 but completed his high school degree in Hawaii. He then served in the US Army in Germany.
After a few years of working for others, Joe went into business for himself with Joe's Painting. Not only did it provide a means of supporting his family, he found great satisfaction and pride in his work. Joe also was very supportive of the grandchildren's athletic endeavors, attending every game he could.
Joe will be greatly missed as he was deeply loved by his family and friends. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Fort Custer Cemetery, Battle Creek, Michigan, by Whitley Memorial Funeral Home. Time is pending.
