Joseph Burroughs Obituary
Mr. Burroughs was born June 3, 1933, one of four children of Robert Clyde Burroughs Sr. and Margaret Grace Penny Burroughs of Wadesboro N.C. He graduated from Davidson College, and the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass.
Ordained to the Episcopal Priesthood in 1958, he served parishes in Tarboro, Old Sparta and Nags Head, N.C. as assistant rector at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Richmond, VA., as Priest-in-church of St. Martins, Triangle VA (a ministry primarily to Marine Corps at Quantico); and for twenty years, as rector of St. Barnabus Episcopal Church, Sykesville, MD. He also served as part-time chaplain at Fairhaven Life Care Center 1980-81, while at St. Barnabus.
At retirement in 1998 Mr. Burroughs purchased a home and resided in Sykesville, MD.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Alice Burroughs Foster of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by brothers, Dr. Robert Clyde Burroughs, Jr., and Malcolm Winston Burroughs.
Mr. Burroughs donated his body to the Anatomy Board of Maryland.
