A funeral service for Joseph “JL” Lossie Butter, Sr., will begin at 11:00am on Friday, October 17, 2025 at the Elwood Baptist Church in Forest Hill. A visitation will begin at 5:00pm until 9:00pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Marksville. Burial will follow the church service on Friday at the Butter Cemetery in Forest Hill.
Joseph Butter, Sr., age 70, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 at his home in Hessmer surrounded by loved ones.
Joseph Butter, Sr., was a true lover of family, country music, and good times spent around the computer. He found happiness in the simple moments, laughing with loved ones, tapping along to a favorite song, and enjoying the company of those closest to him. Whether it was listening to classic cowboy tunes or sharing stories that made everyone laugh, he lived a life full of love and laughter.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cathy Butter of Hessmer; sons, Joseph Lossie Butter, Jr. of Pineville, Shane Michael Butter of Deville, and Justin Lee Butter of Marksville; daughters, Angela Jo Burnaman of Pineville and Johannah Butter of Hessmer; sisters, Velda Sue Long (Glenn) of Alexandria and Becky Rose Laprarie of Glenmora; brother, Arthur Eugene Butter (Kayla) of Hineston; uncle, Ray Smith of Patterson. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Joseph Butter, Jr., Shane Butter, Justin Butter, Mar Magday, and Paul Burnaman. Serving as an honorary pallbearer, Arthur Butter, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Otis Butter, Jr. & Elizabeth Ann Smith Butter Gaspard; sister, Donna Jean Butter Dane.
Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Marksville has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
