Steven Dauzat, age 82, of Effie, passed away in his home on Sunday, October 12, 2025. He was born on January 8, 1943 to Orney & Villia Dauzat, and grew up in Moncla, where he helped in the family country store alongside his brothers and sisters.

After graduating from Marksville High School in 1960, Steven attended LSU and then SLI (now ULL) and received a degree in education in 1964.

Steven worked for the Louisiana Department of Social Services for thirty years, retiring after serving as Avoyelles Parish Administrator, and then Rapides Parish Administrator. He was known to be stern but good natured.

Steven was active in the Avoyelles Council on Aging, St. Joseph Catholic Church Council, and the church fair committee. He was a working member of the Marksville Lions Club, serving in various offices, including two terms as president.

Steven was very interested in raising cattle, which he did almost full time after retirement. He participated in the Cattlemen’s Association, attending trips to learn about the industry.

After moving to Effie in 1993, Steven became a dedicated member of St. Winifred Catholic Church. He was chairman of the cemetery committee, church council president, and a Eucharistic minister.

Steven’s greatest accomplishments were in his personal life. He had many friends, most of whom he outlived. He was close to his parents and siblings. He shared a lifetime of love with his soulmate, whom he married in 1966. His love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was very deep. He was a wonderful role model for them, and they gave him the greatest joy of his life.

In his later years, Steven suffered from near total blindness, and the ravages of Parkinson’s Disease. He never became bitter and always retained his deep faith and sense of humor.

Steven was preceded in death by his loving parents, Orney & Villia Dauzat; two brothers, Ardie and Ruben Dauzat; brother-in-law, Ronnie Hair; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Price.

Steven is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irby McCan Dauzat; children, Blaine Dauzat (Kristy) and Celeste Voinche (Patrick); grandchildren, Beau Voinche (Nellie), Alex Voinche, and Haley Dauzat; plus his great-grandchildren, Vance Voinche and Clyde Gregory. He is also survived by a brother, Dyrel Dauzat (Chalayne); two sisters, Fae Smith (Pete) and Rae Hair; and sisters-in-law, Diane Dauzat and Laura Dauzat.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Steven’s caregivers: Stacey, Demesha, Phamy, and Sheila.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the The Parkinson's Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami Florida, 33126.
