In Loving Memory of Joseph Paz Calva Sr.
Joseph Paz Calva Sr., affectionately known as Joey, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, at 4:04 AM in Berwyn, Illinois, at the age of 77. A longtime resident of Cicero, Illinois, Joey was born on August 22, 1948, on the northwest side of Chicago.
He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Elodia Medina (mama Lola) and Lorenzo Soto (daddy Lawerance), who instilled in him the values of family, hard work. Joey dedicated many years of service to the Ecko Company, retiring in 2010.
Joey found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—building puzzles and model cars, sharing stories, and spending time with loved ones. His infectious laugh, warm smile, and fun-loving spirit made him the heart of every gathering. He was deeply devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
On December 15, 1975, Joey married the love of his life, Laura Pacheco. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. This year would have marked their 50th wedding anniversary.
Joey is survived by his beloved wife Laura, his daughter Mildred Garbalena (Ruben), and his son Joseph Paz Calva Jr. (Michelle). He was a proud grandfather to Ruben Torres, Andy Torres, Jezabel Calva, Xavier Torres, Jaydah Calva, Mikaela Calva, and a great-grandfather to Noah Santino Torres.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonia Flores and Peter Michael Calva, and his stepfather Raul Flores. Joey is also survived by his siblings: Antonia (Alex), Raul Jr. (Nancy), *Christina, Juan Ramon (Ana), Maggie (Anthony), and David (Santa), and was preceded in death by Maria, Guadalupe, and *brother-in-law Rich.
Joey will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, laughed freely, and lived fully. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 21, from 3 to 8 p.m. at The Sourek Manor Funeral Home, 5645 W. 35th St., Cicero. Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Interment Mount Carmel Cemetery. For more information, call The Sourek Funeral Home at 708-652-6661.
