It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph George Camiolo, age 71, on January 2, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1953, Joseph grew up in Glassboro, NJ, and dedicated his life to his family, profession, and community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend whose influence will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those who knew Joe understood the depth of his love for his children. Joseph's children-Joseph Camiolo III (and wife Christine), Andrea Samero (and husband Marcel), Troy Camiolo (deceased), Christopher Camiolo, and Brandon Camiolo (and wife Danielle)-held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments. His 10 grandchildren-Brielle, Arianna, Marissa, Averyanna, Audrina, Peter, Paityn, Guytano, Lilly, and Madalyn-were the joys of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Joe was also deeply devoted to his beloved wife, Theresa Camiolo, with whom he shared many years of happiness. He embraced her daughter, Ava, as his own.
Joe built a respected career as a professor of sociology and psychology, where his wisdom, dedication, and compassion impacted countless students over the years. His legacy in academia lives on, as he inspired and encouraged critical thinking, empathy, and understanding in all his students.
A lifelong Catholic, Joe's faith was an important part of his life. He lived out his beliefs through his kindness, generosity, and commitment to his community. He found great comfort in his church family, and his devotion to the teachings of the Church guided him throughout his life.
An avid sports fan, Joe was a lifelong supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles, and his passion for the team was contagious. Whether at home or among friends, he was always "Philly Proud." Joe was also a proud member of the South Jersey Umpire Association for over 20 years, where he formed deep bonds and a brotherhood that will never be matched.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph D. Camiolo and Jacqueline Camiolo, both of whom he dearly loved and missed. Their memory remained a constant presence in his life, guiding him through both joy and challenge.
Joe's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His kindness, humor, and wisdom will never be forgotten.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Joe's family from 6-8pm on Thursday January 9th, 2025 at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street,
Mount Holly, NJ, 08060. A Funeral Mass for Joe will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11am at the Church of the Holy Eucharist, 520 Medford Lakes Rd, Tabernacle, NJ 08088.
