Joseph W. Carroll, Jr. of Kennett Square, PA, passed away at the age of 81 after a prolonged battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was the husband of Peggy A. Carroll with whom he shared 28 years of marriage. Born in Sparks, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Carroll, Sr. and the late Dorothy Cromwell Carroll.
After graduating from Hereford High School, he enrolled at Roanoke College and graduated with a degree in chemistry. After marrying his dear Peggy in Chattanooga, TN, he eventually moved to Kennett Square, PA where he lived for 46 years. He spent nearly his entire career of 41 years working for the DuPont company. Following his retirement from DuPont, he spent several years as a private consultant and started his own consulting firm known as BizAsia. He spent 12 years serving on the school board for the Unionville Chadds Ford PA school district. He spent 18 years coaching baseball, ranging from KAU Little League through American Legion. He coached basketball for 10 years for various community organizations within the Kennett Square area. He was also active in his church as a Sunday School teacher at Willowdale Chapel for 8 years.
Joe enjoyed traveling internationally as well as cheering on his Philadelphia sports teams. Some of his favorite hobbies included running, playing the guitar, and reading. Above all else, he was most content when spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three sons, Craig Carroll (Stacey), Jay Carroll (Renee), and Dale Browner (Jerry); one daughter, Linda Browner Lawrence (Tim); and one sister, Patricia Lansinger of Reisterstown, MD. In addition to his children, he is survived by five grandchildren: Grace Carroll, Kylie Carroll, Tucker Carroll, Kyle Lawrence, and Tyler Lawrence (Brooke).
You are invited to Joseph's Life Celebration at 11:00 am on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Willowdale Chapel, 6745 Unionville Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church. Interment will be private.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the entire staff at Linden Hall Friends Nursing Home in Kennett Square, PA for the terrific care they provided for Joe. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to this fundraiser benefiting the Unionville High School Community Scholarship Fund in memory of Joseph Carroll. This one time scholarship will be awarded to a 2026 UHS graduating senior.
