Joseph Ronald Cecil, age 83, of Sevierville, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 13, 1942, the son of Augustus and Addie Cecil.
Joseph was a loving dad, papaw, and brother. He was a proud member of the first graduating class of DeSales High School. After graduation he went on to become a tool and die maker, proudly retiring from NaviStar after 30 years of service. After retirement, Joseph moved to Alabama to manage Robinson Foundry in Alexander City. After his second retirement, Joseph settled in Sevierville where he enjoyed the relaxed nature of the mountains.
Joseph had a great sense of humor and was a bit of a character. He was always tinkering on something and was a determined Handyman. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, going boating, and spending time at his cabin indulging with his favorite cigar and bourbon. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathy Jo Ryan Cecil, who passed away on June 30, 2014. He is also preceded by his sister, Sylvia Cecil Modesty Colyd; and a brother, Richard Cecil.
Joseph is survived by his 2 sons, Tony Cecil (Beth) of Taylorsville, Kentucky, and Kenny Cecil (Tracy) of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; 3 grandchildren, Ashley Matherly (Bobby), Lauren Thornsberry (Jon), and Garrett Hawkins; 3 great-grandchildren, Ryan Matherly, Luke Thornsberry, and Claire Thornsberry; 3 siblings, Cathy Arnold (Mel), Stephen Cecil (Judy), and Alton Ray Cecil (Debi); friend, Barbara Kirby Rodgers; many nieces/nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Joseph Cecil will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 6 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Private burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will take place the following day.
