Joseph V. Cerciello, 72, of Great Kills, passed away on November 19, 2025, within the comfort of his home and in the company of his devoted wife Denise.

Born to Vincent and Margaret Cerciello, Joseph grew up in Brooklyn, NY and made his mark early on the basketball courts of Fort Hamilton High School, where he graduated in 1971. He carried that same spirit, energy, and determination into every part of his life.

Joseph spent more than three decades running a beloved family-owned and operated neighborhood meat market in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with his father Vincent, where his friendly presence, sharp wit, and unwavering work ethic became fixtures in the neighborhood. He later completed an 18-year career with the New York State Gaming Commission, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues across the state. Alongside his full-time work, he also held a part-time position at Madison Square Garden as event security-a job he truly enjoyed, especially being in the heart of the excitement working alongside his friends.

Family was the center of Joseph's world. He is survived by his devoted wife, Denise Cerciello of 49 years, his daughter Cara Volpe and son-in-law George Volpe, his son Joseph Cerciello and daughter-in-law Alyssa Cerciello, and his cherished grandchildren Gianna Volpe, Daniella Volpe, Matthew Cerciello, and Emma Cerciello, who were the joy of his life. Joseph was preceded in death by his brother George Cerciello in 2003. He also leaves behind his sister Brenda DeSantis, along with many relatives and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Joseph loved Christmas with his large immediate and extended families and always made each Christmas one to remember. Joseph never missed a chance to cheer on his grandchildren at any of their numerous dance or sporting events, and treasured every moment spent surrounded by family. Known for his natural gift for humor, he had a way of lighting up a room with a joke or a perfectly timed punchline - a comedian at heart who made people laugh, smile, and feel at ease.

Joseph's legacy is one of love, laughter, hard work, and deep devotion to the people he held dear. He will be profoundly missed and remembered always.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at St Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
