Joseph Chapline Obituary

Joseph Thaddeus Chapline, 68, of Frederick, MD, and Baltimore, MD, passed away after a lengthy illness on May 19, 2024, in his hometown. He was born on December 25, 1955, in Frederick, MD, to the late Rosemary Reynolds Chapline and George Markell Chapline, Jr. Joseph was a graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School (where he was President of his Junior class in 1972) and Pennsylvania State University, where he received a Masters degree in Art. He spent his career as a graphic designer for both print and digital media. For many years he designed and maintained the commuter website for Arlington County, VA.

Joe was known for his generosity, his kindness and his sense of humor, as well as his artistic creativity. In his free time, Joe enjoyed making art, biking everywhere and planning long distance bike adventures, fishing, cooking, listening to music, playing guitar (and buying guitars) and following the exploits of his feline companions. He was a lover of beer and baseball, preferably at the same time. He was a big fan of the Ravens and an Orioles Superfan. He also took pleasure in working on the houses he lived in and renovated in Fredericksburg, VA and Baltimore, MD, and hosting epic Thanksgiving dinners and backyard BBQs for family, friends, and neighbors.

Joe will be dearly missed by his surviving siblings, George Markell Chapline, William David Chapline, Mary Christine Chapline, Jeffery Thomas Chapline, Thomas Augustus Chapline, James Barton Chapline, John Michael Chapline, Cynthia Ann Chapline, and Katherine Elizabeth Chapline Trott, and his 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Susan Reynolds Chapline Pitts; and his niece, Erin Fumiko Sato.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heartfields Assisted Living at Frederick for their care of Joe during his last months. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. May he rest in peace.

I´ll miss Joe very much. We sat near each other in school for many years. I´ll never forget how supportive and kind he was. And his quick wit. He was a very kind and creative person. I´m glad we re-connected on Facebook. His memory will be a blessing.

I thank Joe for brightening my life in many ways. From the smiles, to the dances. Although we didn't know each other long, you impacted my life so deeply. Love, Bobby

I send my deepest condolences, although late to Joe's family. Joe was one of my outstanding Commercial Art students while at GTJHS. He was a very creative student and had significant talent. Although I didn't know he went on to the advertising art field, this made me very proud of him. God bless his family.

Joe and I had commercial art classes together at TJ. In my heart he was always very special to me even though he never knew it then. When he came to Heartfields I was so happy to see him again and visit with him to talk about old times at TJ and where our lives took us. He was so kind and so sweet. It was such a special time for me and I hope he enjoyed our visits too. I know he is at peace now and has no more suffering. Thank you Joe for being so kind to me. I will not forget you
