Almost 50 years ago our family vacationed in the Tampa St Petersburg area. Dad told us about swimming in something called an "undertow". We would abruptly learn that this is not something that can be adequately described. My siblings and I had little ocean swimming experience. Suddenly, without warning my sister and I were being pushed out farther and farther from the shore while the sand beneath our feet was being pulled away and out to sea. We were yelling for help between boobing waves and holding our breath. The adult nearest us grabbed his child and hurried to shore. We were drowning! Miraculously my father who was on shore rushed into the surf and managed to pull us ashore. It was sobering to know that we could have died-a feeling of complete helplessness. About 3 years ago, while visiting my sister, my Dad was attempting to exit the car, lost his balance, and fell backward. At that instant, I had closed the door behind him and reflexly grabbed him before he struck the concrete. Later that year I recalled this story in a Father's Day card. He read it very slowly finally saying "I did not think you would remember that". Boy, did I ever! That was the first time I experienced terror knowing we were both in trouble. It was wonderful to return the favor!

I was honored to meet Mr. Joe and played golf with him at Perry County Club. He was always enjoying to play with. Prayers to the family .
