Joseph “Joe” Wayne Davenport, 80, of Lawrence, Indiana, passed away on August 1, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Indianapolis on July 25, 1943, to the late Harold and Ruth (Jones) Davenport. He proudly served his country in the US Navy, volunteered with the City of Lawrence Fire Department for 29 years, and worked for the City of Lawrence Street Department for 30 years.
Joe enjoyed his family, especially bragging about his grandchildren, woodworking, all things patriotic and Christmas. He was well known for his elaborate holiday yard displays, especially for Halloween and Christmas, with many families coming year after year to see what his yard display would contain.
Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Rita Kay (King) Davenport; his two sons, Joseph (Anessa) Davenport Jr. and Scott (Chastity) Davenport; grandchildren, Elysabeth Davenport, Joseph Davenport III, Amber “Nikki” Davenport, Jordan Mills, and Jared (Nicole) Mills.
Funeral services are being held at Indiana Funeral Care – Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis IN 46250. Visitation will be on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10:30am to 12:30pm with the funeral service beginning at 12:30pm. The burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to IFA Burn Camp Fund (PO Box 698, Anderson, IN 46015) noted as “In Memory of Joseph Davenport”.
