Joseph E. Davis of Tampa, Florida, passed away suddenly on May 31, 2023, at the age of 71. Although Joe had been a resident of Florida for the past 7 years, he lived most of his life in Maryland. Joe was born in Flintstone, Maryland, graduating from Flintstone High School in 1970. After graduating from Frostburg University, Joe moved to Sykesville, Maryland, where he began his career in State service at Springfield Hospital Center. He went on to serve as the Executive Director for Operations, Eligibility, & Pharmacy for the State of Maryland, a position from which he retired in 2005.
Joe loved sports. He supported youth sports when his daughters were growing up and particularly enjoyed coaching youth basketball. He looked forward to watching college basketball as well as the annual little league world series. As an avid Ravens fan, Joe spent many Sundays celebrating with his many friends, whom he dearly loved. Joe also enjoyed fishing and had many colorful stories of his trips on the Chesapeake Bay and Ocracoke Island.
Even during his days of declining health, Joe always had a welcoming smile, and his calm kindness was often a breath of fresh air in a hectic world. In the words of his daughters, "Our dad was an amazing person. He was bigger than life and one of the greatest people to walk this Earth. He was kind, generous, and patient. He was just an overall happy person. He loved his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, and would do anything for them."
Joe is predeceased by his father, Joseph H. Davis; his mother, Patricia Kreiling; stepfather, James Kreiling; as well as his sister, Susan Hawley of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is survived by daughers Misty Glorioso (Dennis) of Winfield, Maryland, and Jenny O'Hare (Chris) of Tampa, Florida. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jane, Betsy, and Davis as well as two nieces and five nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in Maryland at a later date. Donations in his honor can be made to the Moffit Cancer Center Foundation, PO Box 23827, Tampa, FL 33623 or online at give.moffitt.org.
