DiBartolomeo family,
My sincere condolences on the loss of Joe. Having served under him in the military I can attest that he was universally respected as a leader. He had a major impact on many lives, to include mine. My heart goes out to all of you during this tough time. Our great hope is to one day be reunited with him in Christ´s heavenly realm. God bless you all

Maria and Family -- I'm so sorry to learn of Joe's passing. I found out only today, and I'm heartsick over it. I figured he'd had a downturn when we didn't hear from him last summer, but I knew he was stoic and a tough old bird who didn't like to focus attention on his illness. But I was unsuccessful in reaching him early in the new year, and thought (hoped) perhaps you all were wrapped up in grandkids and retirement. An internet search today presented me with the news.
It was my pleasure and honor to have Joe as my battalion commander at 2/19th SFGA, and then to have him become a dear friend. We worked (and commiserated) together at an advisory firm in DC, and his being there every day made it bearable -- he was always a joy to be around -- funny, straight-talking, loyal, just the most wonderful, admiration-worthy man. I'm so sorry to share my condolences only know; I wish very much I had known sooner -- and though I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to have friends see him fading, I'd give anything to have been able to be with him once more. I am so thankful that Constance, Catherine and I had the chance to spend two days with him in Cleveland, have dinner with him and Christina and Ben, and have dinner with him the next night at an Italian restaurant (followed by breakfast just the two of us the following morning) last April.
Please know that you all have our most sincere sympathy. Please don't hesitate to contact me if my family or I can do anything to be of help to any of you. Having just gotten the news now, I am -- to be honest -- feeling a little sorry for myself right now. I'm really going to miss him. Please know that we'll always be happy to assist in any way we can. Wishing you all the comfort of happy memories, and knowing how many lives Joe touched and made better in his lifetime. God bless --
