Clyde, Joseph Lloyd Downs, age 67, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at his residence.
A native of Haywood County, Joe was the son of the late Rufus and Juanita Brown Downs. Joe retired from Duke Power as a heavy machine operator with 33 years of service. One of Joe's favorite places on earth was Hurricane Creek spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Joe is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cindy Downs, of Clyde; two sons, Rufus Downs and his wife, Heather, of Canton and Daniel Horlacher, and his wife, Jess, of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren, Hadley, Reed, and Cole Downs; his mother-in-law, Linda Lowman of York, SC; brothers-in-law, William Lowman, and his wife, Cathy, and John Lowman, and his wife, Marla, all of York, SC; nephews, Craig and Chelsea Lowman, and their son Brenton, of Wellford, SC, Jake Lowman, and his wife, Tori, of York, SC, and Justin and Heath Lowman, and their son, Ben, all of Greer, SC; niece, Kara Dover, and her husband, Clint, of York, SC; two special cousins, AJ Brown and June Ferguson; and his beloved fur babies, Callie and Kody.
Private funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with burial to follow at Brown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fines Creek Volunteer Fire Department at 244 Fines Creek Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
The care of Mr. Downs has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
