Joseph Dragotta Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26, 2022.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Joseph Francis Dragotta. Those who knew Joe felt his warmth and infectious personality, always striving to bring everyone around him joy and to make them laugh. His charm and wit was off-limits to no one.

Joe was born at Southampton Hospital in NY on August 14th, 1959 to Francis Dragotta and Elizabeth Ryan. Growing up in East Hampton, whether he was surfing, lifeguarding, or boating, Joe spent his days where he loved being the most: by the water. Joe was an all-round athlete. He played baseball, wrestled, and was co-captain of his East Hampton High School football team (where his father also played). He further excelled in Rugby during his time at Lynchburg University. After two years he transferred to Hofstra, where he received his BA in Political Science.

This competitive drive for excellence followed him throughout his professional life, from his early days with his father's construction company to his property sales and management of his own companies: Maidstone Village Real Estate and East Hampton Management. An avid golfer, he turned a passion into a profession, and pursued a fruitful and enjoyable career as a PGA Golf Professional with Canyon Lakes in San Ramon. After many years of sharing his infinite wisdom and love of the sport, he retired in 2020.

Joe met Tamara Pennington at a college reunion, married in 1989, and they made their way to San Francisco. After finally settling in Pleasanton, they had two daughters: Taylor in 1993, Madison in 1997. Throughout their childhood, Joe coached their softball teams and developed their love for the game. Baseball was their common thread, bonded with their love for the SF Giants. Many memories are cherished, from beautiful days in Half Moon Bay to their shared loved for music and movies.

Above all else, Joe's greatest accomplishment and passion was his family, which is reflected in what an unparalleled father that he was. He instilled great values in his girls from a young age, and they are forever moulded by his wisdom, morals, and love.

Joe is survived by his daughters Taylor and Madison, his friend and ex-wife Tamara Pennington, his sister Debra Fasano, his brother-in-law Michael Fasano, his nieces, Diana, Christa, Alicia, and his nephew Michael Fasano. Funeral services will be held at St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Pleasanton, CA on November 29th, 2022 at 10am, and Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton, NY, on December 3rd, 2022 at 10am.
