Joseph A. Dutts

Joseph A. Dutts, age 91, died peacefully on February 26, 2016 at Wm Beaumont Hospital of Grosse Pointe. Joe was born on September 15, 1924 in Detroit, the son of Thomas and Mary Dutts. He grew up on the Eastside and graduated St. Rose High School in 1943. He entered the US Navy on July 23, 1943 and honorably served his country until he was discharged on December 20, 1945. Joseph was an electrician and learned his craft from his father. After the war, he came home and joined the IBEW Local 58 where he was employed until he retired in 1989. In 1949 Joe married Eileen Maher at St. Rose Catholic Church. They made their home in Detroit until moving to St. Clair Shores in 1952 where they raised their family. Joe didn't have a lot of hobbies. He loved being an electrician and helped many family and friends with their electrical needs. He was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. He was a life member of the VFW Bruce Post #1146. Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen; their children, Michael (Anne), Sally Rozycki (Kent), JoAnn Goodheart, and Colleen Ryan (John); six grandchildren, Thomas Dutts, Andrew, Ryan and Michael Rozycki and Thomas and Keri Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Nolan, Casey and Ryan Dutts; and his brother, Louis Dutts (Beatrice). He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary; his son, Thomas; and son-in-law George Goodheart. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 9:00 pm Monday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 pm. On Tuesday his body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake in St. Clair Shores from 9:30 am until mass begins at 10:00 am. Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin and Rev. Fr. Richard Bartoszek will officiate. Interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.
