Joseph Farris Obituary

Joseph Eugene Farris was born to Elizabeth and Joseph Farris on September 20, 1937 in Marion County, Indiana. Joe passed away peacefully at the Riverside Community Hospital on September 20, 2025, at the age of 88.

After proudly serving his country as a United States Marine, Joe came to Ridgecrest through the Marine Corps and quickly made the desert his home. He loved the desert, the people, and the mission carried out at China Lake. Joe worked for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier, then an Electrician at Kerr McGee in Trona, and then spent the bulk of his civilian career at the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station, work he held in the highest regard.

Joe was preceded in death by the love of his life, Armenia Cecilia Farris, his eldest grandchild, Rita Stephanie, and his brother Morris James Farris.

He is survived by his brother Donald (Gailyn) Farris; his six children: Kristin Della, Kathy Farris, Karen (Ross) Van Ostrand, Tim (Maureen) Farris, Joe (Lisa) Farris, and C'Anne Vaughn; grandchildren Rebecca Flores, Leia (Greg) Skelley, Sarah (Andy) Dick, Stephen (Linae) Burfeindt, Lacie (Trey) Galvan, Toni Valdez, Danny Valdez, Katherine (Joshua) Orr, Michael (Hannah) Farris, Greg Farris, Taylor (John David) Stocking, and Holly Vaughn; his many great- and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Joe enjoyed being a part of his community. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and devoted member of the Ridgecrest Seniors Center. He loved gathering with friends and bringing joy to others by playing the piano. He was deeply committed to family, community, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and integrity.

Services for Joseph Farris will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church with a viewing and rosary on Wednesday, October 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a funeral mass on Thursday, October 2, at 11:30 a.m., followed by full military honors at Desert Memorial Park.

Joseph was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
