Graveside funeral services for Mr. Joseph Gurney "Joe" Files, age 81, of Gulf Shores, AL, are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Oak Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 11 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Thursday and again following the service at 1 p.m. at the Sheryl Gillikin residence (2900 Pargoud Blvd., Monroe, LA).
Mr. Files, a retired insurance agent and member of First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. Joe was a happy soul who approached every day of his life with great zeal and excitement. He passed away suddenly Friday, December 27, 2024, after spending the morning in the duck blind, followed by lunch with his family. He would not have had it any other way. He loved his family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Sandi Files; children, Earle Files and wife Hollie, John Files and wife Jennifer; stepsons, Christopher Mathews and family, Stephen Mathews and family, Michael Hanbery and family; grandchildren, Avery-Grace Files, Noah Files, Catherine Files, Susan Files; special step grandson, Jake Mathews; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Jo Files Cummings and family, William Dan "Bo" Files III and family, Margaret Files Morgan and family, Mark Larche Files and family.
Mr. Files is preceded in death by his parents, William Dan Files and Ethelyn Gurney Files; brother, William Dan Files, Jr.
Serving as pallbearers are: Noah Files, Jake Mathews, William Dan "Bo" Files III, Mark Files, Craig Cummings and Trey Morgan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity or conservation organization of your choice.
