Funeral service for Maris D. "Scoopie" Stallings Johnston is scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in the chapel Golden Funeral Home, with Bro. Doug Edwards and Bro. Casey Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Bonita Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, October 20, 2025, from 5 PM until 7 PM at Golden's.
Scoopie was a resident of Bonita, LA, who passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of eighty. She was a graduate of Bonita High School and a retired business owner and co-owner of Scoopy's Place. She also retired from Farm Supply after fifteen years. Scoopie loved flowers and took pride in maintaining a pretty yard. She was beloved by many and will be missed dearly.
Scoopie is survived by her son, U.B. "Udie" Herrington, and wife Leslie; daughters, Charlotte Strother, Deede McDowell, and husband B.J.; niece, Tresa Moyers, and husband Trey; brother-in-law, Lee McKoin, and friend Tabatha Williams; grandchildren, Drew Morse, Kristen Herrington, Brett Herrington, Carlie McDowell, Claire Herrington, Cassidy Alexander, Hayden Alexander, Baron Lee McDowell, William Tisdale, Amber Tisdale, Robert Walton; thirteen great grandchildren; and special friends, Mary Cox and Ann Standridge.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin A. Johnston, Jr.; parents, Conrad and Mozelle Stallings; sister, Yvonne McKoin; father-in-law, Melvin Johnston, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Amelda Johnston.
Serving as pallbearers will be Drew Morse, Brett Herrington, Trey Moyers, Jake Herrington, Damien Moyers, Les Tullos, and Tommy Brister. Honorary pallbearers are Baron Lee McDowell, Lee McKoin, Chris Capers, Mikey Mitchell, and Joe Norris.
