Joseph Freda Obituary

Joseph Alfred Freda

Joseph Alfred Freda, 83 years of age, and resident of Barrington Hills, Illinois and Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully at his Barrington Hills residence on September 24, 2025.

He was born on February 25, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Mary Louise (nee Capone) and Sam Alfred Freda. On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Judith (nee Prioletti) Freda; the two enjoyed a loving and happy marriage for over 62 years, raising their family and building a business.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Judith Freda; children, Maria E. Freda, Christine (Michael) Stock, Joseph M. (Victoria) Freda, and Mark N. Freda; grandchildren, Michael F. (Emily Rose Nelson) Maude III, Benjamin J. Maude, Emily R. Maude, Tyler J. Stock, Matthew P. Stock, Isabella M. Stock, Anastasia M. Freda, Samuel J. Freda, Nicholas R. Freda, Hope A. Freda, Hatcher C. Freda, Paloma L. Freda; great-grandchildren, Landon S. Nelson-Maude, Mateo M. Nelson-Maude, and Ella O. Nelson-Maude; siblings, Mary Ann (Dennis) Olson and Gerald P. (Marilyn) Freda; his devoted border collie, Sammy; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary L. and Sam A. Freda.

An accomplished man in many areas of his life, Joseph dedicated himself wholly to his business, C&F Packing Company, Inc., owner and president. Joe led the second generation, taking the reins from his father, Sam Freda, who founded the business in 1945. Above all, he was a loving husband, devoted father, proud papa, and friend to everyone he met. Joseph was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Barrington, Illinois, as well as a member of the Port Royal Club in Naples, Florida. He was an avid tennis player and a true White Sox Fan, who loved the outdoors, fly fishing, working in the forest, woodworking (specifically making cradles for all his children, to celebrate and welcome his beloved grandchildren). Joseph will be remembered and missed by many.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010.

A second visitation will be held the following day, Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., all at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL 60010. Private interment to follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the Freda Family kindly requests memorials in Joseph's name to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org), or any other cancer foundation of your choice.
