It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph N. Garceau, (Uncle Joey) who departed this life peacefully on June 10th, 2025, at the age of 67, surrounded by his family in Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT.
Joseph was born on October 1st, 1957, in Massachusetts to Norman and Rita Garceau. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend to all who were a part of his life. Uncle Joey was more than just a stand-up guy; he was passionate about his family and loved to watch us all grow and blossom. He was always there for a shoulder to lean on, advice, a laugh, and always made you feel welcomed with warm kindness and unconditional love. He had the greatest sense of humor and could turn the smallest joke into the biggest laugh. He loved sweets, especially Boston cream donuts, and he would always laugh when his niece brought him some, and it would be "their secret." A comedian by nature, Joey loved his great nephew Jacob, his niece Michelle, and his nephew David, who were more like a grandson, daughter, and son to him, and he cherished every memory and moment, big or small. His brother David was his best friend, and until David's passing in 2005, they were inseparable by nature and always made your day bright and fun when together. Prior to Joey's retirement, he was a maintenance director for housing facilities throughout CT. He enjoyed painting houses with his brother David as well. Joey was a kind, gentle soul, a teddy bear; his energy and vibe lit up a whole room. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his niece Michelle Tardif, his nephew David Garceau Jr., his great nephew Jacob Buckley, his great niece Natalya Tardif, his great nephew Silvio Garceau, and several other nieces and nephews, as well as his roommate Wanda Garceau and longtime friend Farid Shekohi-Nam. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Rita Garceau, his brother David Garceau Sr., his sister Denise Sica, and his sister Joann Plante.
A celebration of life will be held at the family's discretion and will be announced soon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Liver Foundation in Joseph's memory.
Joseph Garceau will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
