Joseph H. Gillock, 67 of Mt. Auburn, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025. He was born on October 30, 1957, in Taylorville, IL, to the late George and Marjorie (Cordray) Gillock. He married Barbara (Patrick) Gillock on October 22, 1977, in Mt. Auburn and she survives.
Joseph worked for Tommy House Tire as a tire recapper for many years. He loved camping and spending time outdoors at their lake lot. He frequently attended St. Louis Cardinals games and coached softball for a number of years. He enjoyed traveling. Joseph also participated in and won several chili cook-off competitions. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children: Melissa (John) Habing of Teutopolis, IL: Kimberly (Jon) Carter of Smithton, IL; Erin (Joe) Lash of Macon, IL; grandchildren: Anabelle, Katherine, Jolene, Joseph, Natalie, Brock, Elsie, Willow, and Ava; his brother: David (Beverly) Gillock of North Ridgeville, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Jacqueline Thomas and Teresa Anderson.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Auburn Fire Department.
