Joseph Richard Goossens, a hard-working and fun-loving husband, Dad and Pappy, passed away in his home on June 17, 2024. Joe was 88 years old and lived in Fishers, IN with his wife of 65 years, Janice (Maggioli) Goossens.
Joe was born and raised in Mishawaka, Indiana to Omer and Cecelia (Witkowski) Goossens, who preceded him in death along with his sister, Joan Smith. Joe attended Mishawaka High School, continuing his education at the South Bend College of Commerce.
In 1960 Joe began his work as a firefighter for the City of Mishawaka and completed 20 years of service, retiring as a Captain. Joe then began his career in the Insulation business and later a land development business. His insulation and development expertise led to many honors in the home building industry.
Joe married the woman of his dreams, Janice Helen Maggioli on October 18, 1958. They had 3 children, Jamie (Chuck) Donchess, Jackie (Mike) Noll and Joel (Stacey). There was no role that Joe played better than that of “Pappy” to 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (as of today).
Joe/Pappy achieved one of his life dreams when he and Janice moved to Cassopolis Michigan and lived on Diamond Lake for 30 years. Many fond memories were made with family and friends at his “Lil’ Bit of Heaven’” lake house.
Joe was an avid Notre Dame sports fan. He and Janice were season football ticket holders for many, many years and traveled to several parts of the country for away games. Tailgating was a highlight before and after the game with lifelong friends, food, drink and Dad’s beloved “Mickey the Mongoose”. Season tickets were also held for many years for boys and girls basketball games where Joe was able to satisfy his love of popcorn.
