He was the son of the late Joseph Hakos and Rose (Walendziewcz) Hakos.
Surviving are his wife Alice Hakos, daughter Catherine (Richard) Mangino, son Joseph (Cindy) Hakos, Karen Puckey, Michael (Sharon) Mautino, and brother Donald Hakos.
He will be fondly remembered by his twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife Emily (Jobe) Hakos, sister and brother in law Nancy and Jim Martin, step daughter Diane Young, and great grandsons Anthony Puckey and Maximus Till.
Joseph retired from US Steel after a remarkable 37-year career. He is an accomplished saxophonist who toured with his band, Ray and the Furys, the VFW National Band, and the Pittsburgh Concert Jazz Orchestra. Additionally, he co-owned the Dormont Music Store.
He was a part of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. His dedication to the community extended beyond his church involvement. As a lifetime member of the Mingo Rod and Gun Club, he found joy in connecting with nature and fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
His passion for travel took him to various destinations across the United States and Europe, where he immersed himself in different cultures and landscapes. His wife, Alice, was his constant companion on these journeys, sharing in his love for exploration and discovery. Together, they created memories that would last a lifetime, bonding over the thrill of new experiences and the tranquility of nature.
During his last days, the support and compassion provided by Pastor Jude Urso, his hospice nurses Tina and Tracy, and the team at Gateway Hospice were truly invaluable. The care and kindness he received will always be remembered as a source of comfort and compassion during his final days.
The family would like to express their gratitude for all the condolences and support received during this difficult time.
