Joe Paul Hamilton passed away November 23, 2025, at the age of seventy-nine at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Interment will follow at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Joe Paul was born on January 2, 1946, in Coryell County to Everett and Oleta Hamilton. He attended school in Oglesby where he played football. He graduated from high school in 1964.
Joe Paul joined the army in 1965 and served his country in Vietnam. Joe Paul married Diane Sparks on November 14, 1969, in Clifton, Texas. They were married for 56 years. Joe worked at General Dynamics, Kinder, and retired from Smead Manufacturing after 37 years of service.
Joe Paul was always very active in his community. He was on the Oglesby Rescue Squad, coached Little League, and served on the Oglesby ISD school board for 23 years. He proudly served his community like he served his country.
In his younger years, Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing, but in his later years he especially enjoyed attending his grandkids activities in sports, Christmas programs, and just being there to support their accomplishments.
Joe Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Hamilton; father-in-law, Merrell D. Sparks; brothers-in-law, Bob Morton, and Ronald C Wright; and many other wonderful family members who he cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Hamilton; sister, Barbara Wright; children, Rebecca and husband, Scott Schultz, Joel and wife, Candice Hamilton, Adam and wife, Kristen Hamilton, and Andrew and wife, Cindy Hamilton. He is also survived by his wonderful grandchildren who he enjoyed watching grow, Brayden Schultz, Gunnar Schultz, Laney Schultz, Cameron Hamilton, Carson Hamilton, Junior Benitez, Collin Hamilton, Addison Hamilton, Brooke Hamilton, Joe Hamilton, Sidney Hamilton, and Avery Hamilton; and his very first beautiful great granddaughter, Yesenia Hamilton Benitez. Joe Paul had many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces who were very dear to him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Oglesby Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 6, Oglesby6, Texas 76561.
