Joseph Phillip Heck, 48, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born on March 9, 1977, in Statesboro, Georgia, Phillip was the son of Joseph August Heck, Jr. and Pamela Kaye Fender Heck.

Phillip dedicated his life to service-first as a firefighter with the Wilmington Fire Department, and most recently as a Sergeant with the Greene County Sheriff's Department. Always willing and ready to serve, Phillip was deeply committed to the safety and well-being of the residents of Greene County. His service extended beyond his local community, having proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.

Known for his ability to connect with people, Phillip had a passion for teaching and empowering others. He instructed concealed carry courses and First Aid. Driven by his belief in preparedness and protection, Phillip founded Neuse River Tactical, a business whose mission is to equip individuals with the skills and confidence to safeguard their families.

A true outdoorsman, Phillip loved the beach and treasured time spent with his family. From a young age, he held a scuba diving certification and continued to enjoy water-related activities throughout his life. But above all, Phillip was a devoted husband and an extraordinary father. His wife and daughters were his greatest joy, and he poured his heart into loving and supporting them.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 21 years, Cameron Marie Heck; his beloved daughters, Olivia Marie Heck and Karsyn Brooke Heck; his parents, Ellen and Joseph August Heck, Jr.; his mother, Pamela Kaye Fender Heck; and his brother, Benjamin Jay "B.J." Heck and wife Grace, along with their sons, Eric Benjamin Heck and Brandon Jay Heck. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Rick Lackey and wife Pam; sister-in-law, Melanie Raynor and husband Kent; and their children, Owen, Brooklynn, and Mila.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Goldsboro Worship Center, 900 W. New Hope Road, Goldsboro. A service to celebrate Phillip's life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, with Pastor Danny Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to support the future education and care of Olivia and Karsyn.
