Joseph Henry Helms, Sr, 83, passed away, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at his home in Donalsonville, Georgia surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, 4:00 at The Donalsonville Church of God with Pastor Larry Daughtry and Dillon Helms officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Tatum officiating graveside. Wilton Albrittion, Jason Long, William Hatcher, Michael Albrittion, Scott Smith and Mike Adams serving as active pallbearers,
Visitation will be held half an hour prior to service, 3:30 at the Church.
Joe (Big Joe, Grandaddy, Daddy) was born in Colquitt, Georgia to K.T. and Erie Jackson Helms on May 11, 1942. He served in the National Guard from 1963-1973, He worked at Elberta Crate, owned his own trucking company as well as many other jobs. Mr. Helms lived a full life. He enjoyed riding horses, working with his hands, spoiling his grand and great-grandchildren and spending time with his family. He was an active member of the Donalsonville Church of God until his recent illness.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Patricia Smith Helms, his daughter Pam Helms, son Joey (Michelle) Helms of Donalsonville, and Brad (Robin) Helms of Brinson; his grandchildren, Ashley (Scotty) Boyett, of Attaplugas, Dillon (Kaycee) Helms of Tifton, Jessica (Jake) Page of Donalsonville, Mathew Helms of Tampa Fl. and Madison Helms of Donalsonville, one brother Danny (Linda) Helms of Colquitt and a sister-in-law Betty Smith Helms of Donalsonville.
He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Savanna and Carson Stone of Putney, Jarret Page, unborn twins, Caroline and Camden Page of Donalsonville, Bently, Brody and Brooks Boyett of Attapulgas and Allie Boyett of Thomasville and several special Nieces and Nephews
Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his parents K.T. and Erie Helms, Sisters Bonnie Church, Betty Hawthorne, Linda Dukes, Brothers Kenneth Helms, and Ricky Helms.
